OLiVer will upgrade, demonstrate and validate at pilot scale of an improved hydrometallurgical extraction process of LHM battery grade product. OLiVer relies on the existing flowsheet of RockTech (Guben convertor in Germany under construction TRL 9) to produce LHM with high efficiency. The convertor will be upgraded by implementing two relevant technologies: an innovative calcination and leaching at milder conditions (of NTUA at TRL5) and a direct Li extraction (DLE) to enable recirculation of Li lost in the wastewaters back to the main LHM production line (of VITO at TRL5). The productivity will increase to + 200tpa (currently not recovered). We target battery and automotive manufacturing industries as primary customers. DLE market is also opportune as OLiVer broadens the use of other EU secondary that are not economically viable. The production target is 24ktpa battery grade LHM (6,5% of total projected EU Li demand,16% of CRMA target).EU currently is not producing any Li battery grade chemicals! OLiVer will bring the innovation to an industrial relevant level (TRL8) by connecting players in the whole process value chain.
